1. Postdoctoral Position  -  Interpretation of Planck Data - APC

We invite applications for a two-year CNES postdoctoral position in
Theoretical Cosmology and CMB Analysis. The successful candidate
will participate in the final stages of the analysis of the data
gathered from the Planck space mission within the Planck High
Frequency Instrument (HFI) Core team. The postdoc recruited will
work with Martin Bucher and the Planck group at APC on the projects
establishing the link between the power spectrum likelihood and
constraints on candidate theoretical cosmological models. The
postdoc will contribute to the three planned papers of the Planck
Consortium on this subject. The postdoc will be based at the
Laboratoire AstroParticule Cosmologie (APC ) at the Université
Paris Diderot-Paris 7. The Planck team at APC is very actively
involved in all stages of the Planck analysis. This post also
offers numerous opportunities to collaborate with researchers at
other Planck partner institutions in the Paris area. The position
will begin in autumn 2010 for a term of two years, but some
flexibility with respect to the start date may be possible.
Applicants should send a cover letter, CV and research statement to
the attention of Mme Hélène Le Bihan, Laboratoire APC, Université
Paris Diderot-Paris 7, Bâtiment Condorcet, Case 7020, 75205 Paris
Cedex 13 or preferably by e-mail to helene@apc.univ-paris7.fr and
arrange to have three letters of recommendation sent on their
behalf.  Inquiries regarding the position may be addressed to
Martin Bucher at bucher@th.u-psud.fr. The closing date is 10
November 2009, but applications will be considered until the
position is filled.

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS in GALAXY FORMATION and COSMOLOGY
     ************************************************************

We expect to offer postdoctoral fellowships to start in the fall of 2010.
We are looking especially for researchers working on the theory of the
formation, evolution and dynamics of galaxies and large-scale structure,
including simulations, semi-analytic modeling and analytic work,
in close contact with observations.

Our group is part of the Racah Institute of Physics at the Hebrew
University of Jerusalem. Astrophysics faculty include, among others,
Jacob Bekenstein, Avishai Dekel, Yehuda Hoffman, Tsvi Piran, Re'em Sari,
and Nir Shaviv. Current postdocs working on galaxy formation are
Tobias Goerdt, Daniel Ceverino, Marcello Cacciato and Natalia Romero.
Several other postdocs work in high-energy astrophysics, planetary
systems and gravity.
There are currently ~15 astrophysics graduate students at the
Racah Institute. We pursue extensive collaborations with leading
groups in Europe and in the US, and can consider joint arrangements.

Interested candidates are invited to send their application material
by email to Mrs. Dikla Soae at the above address by December 31, 2009.
The material should include a curriculum vita, a list of publications,
a brief summary of past, current and planned research, and three
letters of recommendation.

Applicants are also asked to make an e-mail contact with
Prof. Avishai Dekel at dekel@phys.huji.ac.il .

3. Postdoctoral Position in Extragalactic Astrophysics and Cosmology
  at UCDavis

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research position at the
University of California Davis. The successful applicant will work with
Prof. Marusa Bradac on one or both of the following topics:
i) gravitational lensing and galaxy clusters, in connection with the
large Subaru/HST/Chandra dataset of the most massive and mergin clusters
known;
ii) z>7 galaxies and their role in reionizing the Universe. Available
resources include HST (including WFC3/IR proprietary), Spitzer,
Chandra, Keck and VLT data. Previous experience in analysis of
HST data, ground based spectroscopy, and/or gravitational lens modeling
is considered a plus. A fraction of the successful candidate's time is
expected to be devoted to independent research. The appointee will have
access to the facilities of the Lick Observatory and, on a
collaborative basis, the Keck Observatories for such research.
The appointment is for two years; renewal for a third year is subject
to performance and availability of funds. The UCDavis physics
department hosts a strong research program in astrophysics
and cosmology and provides a stimulating environment.

The appointment is expected to start on or before September 1 2010 and
requires the completion of a PhD by that date. Applicants should submit
a statement of research interests, publication list, CV, and should
arrange for three letters of reference to be sent. E-mail submission to
marusa@physics.ucdavis.edu is preferred. Full consideration will be
given to applications received by December 10th 2009. Applicants should
mention if they are planning on attending the 215th AAS meeting for
possible interviews. The University of California is an Equal
Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer committed to excellence through
diversity.
